Line 01 / Rates and fees
Freight factoring rates: the rate you're quoted, and the rate you pay
Freight factoring rates are quoted as one percentage, but you pay that percentage plus every fee around it. Two quotes at 3% can cost you very different amounts by the end of the year. This page prints the full bill: what the market looks like according to factoring companies themselves, every fee to ask about, and your true cost per invoice and per mile at your own rate.
What factors say about the market: "Most invoice factoring rates fall between 1% and 5% per invoice" (Bobtail guide, July 24, 2026); factoring costs are "generally 2% or more" (DAT, factoring rates page).

How much do freight factoring companies charge? Read three published offers
Most factoring companies don't publish a rate. The few that do show how differently the same service is priced. These are their own words from their own pages, checked on October 6, 2026. They are examples, not a ranking or an average, and terms change.

The rate is a percentage of each invoice. The structure says whether it stays flat or climbs while the broker takes longer to pay. The advance is the share you get now; the rest is a reserve, released when the broker pays.
Recourse decides who loses if a broker never pays, and recourse is usually priced lower. Fees and contract are where quotes really differ: the transfers, minimums and the notice needed to leave. A low rate with a long contract can cost more than a higher rate you can walk away from.

Freight factoring costs, line by line, at your rate per mile
Each line ticks off as you read it. Tick "in my quote" for the fees your factor charges and put in the amounts from your written quote. The calculator underneath adds them to the rate and prints your true cost per invoice, per loaded mile, per month and per year. Every default amount is made up; change them all.

EXAMPLE AMOUNTS
Use the numbers in your written quote. Defaults are made up.
On the EXAMPLE, a 3% quote becomes about 3.44% once an ACH fee and an invoice fee are added: 8 cents on every loaded mile, close to $9,000 over a year. To see how a factoring advance changes your bank balance week by week, run it through the trucking cash flow forecaster.
Compare with a written quoteLine 04 / How to get a lower rate
Lowest factoring rates go to carriers who look low-risk
Volume
A factor's cost per invoice falls as your volume grows, so more trucks or more loads earn a lower rate. If you are growing, ask now what the rate becomes at your next volume step, in writing.
Broker credit
The factor is betting on your brokers paying, not on you. Hauling for brokers with strong credit and fast payment lowers its risk. Brokers it won't approve are worth avoiding anyway.
Recourse choice
Taking recourse means you carry the risk of a broker never paying, and the rate is usually lower for it. Choose it only if you can repay an advance from your reserve without missing a truck payment.
Send clean paper. An invoice that matches the rate confirmation, with a signed BOL, costs the factor less to verify and collect. Carriers with few disputes have a better case at renewal. Get two or three quotes and compare them on the true cost per invoice from the calculator above, not the headline rate. Our freight factoring companies compared page lists what each one publishes.
Where dispatch fits
Our dispatchers negotiate every rate and set up the carrier packet with each broker, so the rate confirmation, the broker name and the agreed extras match the invoice your factor receives. The load is still yours to take or turn down: the rate confirmation goes straight to you, and nothing is booked until you sign it. We work with any factor. See dispatch for owner-operators or apply for dispatch.
Line 05 / Hidden fees in the structure
Trucking factoring rates, flat vs tiered
Some fees hide in the structure, not the fee list. A tiered rate looks cheaper on day one and grows while the invoice is unpaid. Whether that beats a flat rate depends only on how fast your brokers pay. The EXAMPLE on the right compares a flat 3% with a tiered 2% that adds 0.5% for every 15 days past day 30.
A broker paying in 20 days makes tiered the better deal. One paying in 75 days makes it the worse one. Pull your last three months of invoices, note the days each broker took, and put the average into the calculator above with both structures. If you don't know your brokers' payment days, flat is the easier rate to budget.
General information, not financial advice. Rates and fees come only from each company's written quote and contract.

Line 06 / Questions
Factoring fees in trucking, answered
How can I get a lower factoring rate?
Bring more volume, haul for brokers with strong credit, and choose recourse if you can carry the risk. Clean paperwork lowers the factor's cost too. Then get two or three written quotes and compare the true cost per invoice, fees included, not the headline rate. Ask again after a few clean months.
What are typical freight factoring rates?
Factoring companies describe the market themselves: Bobtail's July 2026 guide says most invoice factoring rates fall between 1% and 5% per invoice, and DAT says generally 2% or more. Your rate depends on volume, broker credit, recourse and the fees around it.
What is an ACH or wire fee in factoring?
A charge for sending your money to your bank. ACH usually arrives the next business day; a wire or instant transfer is faster and often costs more. Doft publishes $3.00 per ACH deposit; Bobtail says it has no hidden fees. Ask which transfer the app uses by default.
Flat vs tiered factoring fees: which is cheaper?
It depends on how fast your brokers pay. A tiered fee starts lower and rises every so many days; with fast-paying brokers it can cost less than flat. With slow payers it often ends up higher. Run your brokers' real payment days through the calculator on this page with both structures.
What hidden fees do factoring companies charge?
Common ones are transfer fees, invoice processing fees, broker credit check fees, fuel advance fees, monthly minimums, setup fees and early termination fees. Not every company charges them, and some charge none. Ask for every fee in writing and add it to the rate to get the true cost.
